Public Policy

The CBO Center's Public Policy Committee is excited to bring you a new resource. This new page will announce on a periodic basis items of interest to the nonprofit sector.  Its focus will be on national, state and local matters that pertain to all or most nonprofits in the CBO constituency, not to particular policy concerns of a subset (i.e., it will not focus on housing or health issues but will focus on nonprofit tax or advocacy concerns that affect all nonprofits).

The news items are given for educational purposes and also to stimulate a conversation.  You will be able to comment on each item and we hope we are able to start a dialogue about a few of these issues.  You are also welcome to come to any of The CBO Center's Public Policy Committee meetings to share your thoughts about a particular item or suggestions for what to cover.  Meeting dates will be announced in advance. Also each year we sponsor a Public Policy Nonprofit Day (mark your calendars: next one is March 14, 2008).

These news items do not reflect any official position of The CBO Center, unless noted.  The  CBO Center does occasionally take public policy positions on:

…. issues that affect or have the potential to affect all or the majority of the community benefit organizations serving the East Bay, primarily in the areas of tax policy, regulations, employment issues, business of nonprofits, and First Amendment rights of nonprofits.

When this does occur we will be sure to clearly delineate that position; otherwise items are given simply for education purposes, often to links for further information.  Be sure to check back regularly for updates.

Sincerely,

Ann Lehman
Chair, The CBO Center Public Policy Committee
